CikloParking: A Transferable Solution for Bike-Friendly Cities

The problem addressed is the lack of accurate, up-to-date data on bicycle parking infrastructure and demand, leading to inefficiencies in planning and mobility management. The initiative was triggered by the need to integrate key stakeholders—local authorities, institutions, businesses, and residents—into a unified system for identifying, analyzing, and optimizing bicycle parking supply and demand.

Through CikloParking, web-based surveys and applications collect data on mobility habits, public opinion, implementation challenges, and infrastructure adequacy. The WebGIS platform enables spatial visualization and analysis of registered bicycle parking facilities and demand, providing insights for decision-making, compliance with cycling infrastructure regulations, and continuous improvement of mobility strategies.

The CikloParking practice reaches its objectives by systematically collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data on bicycle parking supply and demand through a WebGIS platform and digital tools. It ensures an evidence-based approach to planning and managing bicycle infrastructure by integrating input from key stakeholders, including residents, local authorities, and businesses.

The CikloParking practice is considered innovative, effective, transferable, and sustainable because it combines public participation with digital mapping tools, enabling real-time monitoring of bicycle parking infrastructure. Its data-driven approach improves urban mobility planning by providing accurate insights into parking supply and demand, leading to targeted investments. The system's adaptability makes it easily transferable to different cities and regions, while its continuous data collection and stakeholder engagement ensure long-term sustainability in mobility management.
